O.K this might have been done by somebody else but I'm to lazy to search for it. Who has the highest TDS reading? Since we have members from all over the country and then some I'm just curious to know how clean our water is.

Heres mine - 129

That's off of a water system here in Mt. Pocono.

Oh my, that is nowhere close to being high. In my area of Ohio a 270 is pretty normal for well water and in some parts of the world a 2000 would not be out of sight. The well water in the Pocono's is not that hard as you have a granite base rock.

The TDS meter on my Spectrapure input says: 2. I hope I'm not reading it incorrectly!

Mine comes out of the tap at 240 now, but when I lived in Marysville Ohio a couple years ago, it was always between 750-850. It tasted like pool water and left nasty rings in sinks and toilets... I do not miss that water.

Well considering what kind of #'s I'm seeing I quess mines not all that bad. What would happen to your aquarium if you used water at 800 ppm and didn't treat it?

Just for context, the US EPA suggests a max of 500 ppm for drinking water.

No- the output is "0." Again, forgive me if it's a misread, but the TDS digital display window reads: 002 coming in; when switched to the output reading, it's 000.

But I'm more than willing to consider I'm misreading it!

I suspect what your "in" probe is reading is RO water, and the "out" probe is reading DI water, right?

Ah- I believe that's the solution. So, without reconnecting the meter to the black (source water) line, my reading of "002" is not descriptive- but I'm glad for the "0" output.

835 in northwest Phoenix AZ. Parts of the eastern Valley like Chandler, Tempe and Mesa often exceed 1200.

EPA considers total dissolved solids an asthetic concern and not a healt risk so there is no maximum contaminate level like nitrates, copper, arsenic and lead all of which do have known health efects.
Nationwide, TDS runs about 250 today.

Looks like the northeast or mid atlantic states have the cleanest waters.

They are mainly tapping into granite bedrock on the East coast. Out in the Midwest we have limestone and that greatly increases TDS and hardness of well water. Most surface waters are lower in TDS than wells.

California has soft and hard waters. Krowleey is located in an area where the rock structure is Cenozoic alluvial deposits and, to the north, Paleozoic volcanic rock structures. I imagine he gets reservoir water from the lake Shasta area.

A large portion of Southern California is fed from the Colorado River via the Metropolitan Water Dist. of Southern California canal system. Their wate rquality will be similar to the Phoenix area, hard as a rock and high TDS.

yes, our water comes from lake shasta ( i think) it's that or sacramento river, either way it's decent water to drink and not too bad for tap for a reef tank. i use ro water anyway. i dont need di, i get 0 tds from ro.
