Hi, I just brought home a blue milli. It's not really blue right now but I bet he will color up in no time. Does anyone have good experience with this coral? Like what flow, how high and bright, how fast will it grow? I have two 150 watt 20k metal halides right now. Thanks.

Mine is a fast grower. I have mine under moderate light and high flow.

Are some of the polyps green on your milli? My frag is green at the base and some on the branches too, and I was wondering if that's a comman trait on the blue milli. The un-named mother colony from my friend's tank is also the same. It's my favorite sps so far.

Wow 60cubed, that is an awesome piece of mili! What kind of lights are you using?

Chris4869 no mine doesn't have any green polyps, but I don't think that is a bad thing, I think that would look pretty sweet. It is my favorite too.

i am not too sure 20k light are the best for growth...but my millies like pretty good light and high flow...

Nice pieces 60Cubed

Here are 2 that my son has in my tank. A LFS snapped two little 1/4- 1/2 frags off of two they had awhile back and gave him for free. They took awhile encrusting the rock and then all of a sudden just started shooting out tips and taking off.
One is a darker blue and the other is a lighter Carolina blue. Since I take care of them I keep telling him I`m going to frag a piece off each when he is at school on day :D

These are under 10k Reeflux bulbs....

Wow phyxius, those two are nice. I especially like the first one. Haha thats a nice idea about fragging them. I hope mine grows quickly. Thanks for the reply.

Thanks. You would be amazed at what my son could talk stores into fragging off pieces of for free or discounting for him. I guess Dads don't get the discounts and freebies like that..LOL

60cubed... i think yours is a prostrata

It's still nice. :)

Now I wonder if mine is a prostrata instead of a milli. The branches are pretty uniform, but it's still too early to tell. I've waited a year for my frag and thought it was a blue milli all this time. It's still my favorite. :D

Eric Do took this picture of the mother colony (left coral) a while back. Mine doesn't have any hint of pink and is a deeper blue.

chris4869 - that looks a lot more like a prostata. The tips on a prostata look different, maybe someone more knowledgable at ID can verify...

It might be. I wouldn't say I was an expert in the scientific names. It just looks like a milli to me. I could very well be mistaken. I, however, do have a pink milli that looks just like it just pink. You know I guess it could be a prostrata also. I will post a shot of it as well. This blue whatever grows like crazy!!!!!! If you break a tip off, it grows three new branches. Freakin' sick!

Thanks everybody for the compliments. This thing is so blue it almost looks fake! The colors in these pics are as close to the real thing as you can get.

Someone asked of lights.... I have the mother colony in my DT under a 20K XM 400w for 7hrs a day. With a 10K XM 400w on for 3hrs in the middle of this. So for 3hrs a day there are two 400w halides kickin'. The frags are under a 12K reeflux 400w in my frag tank. There is no other supplimentation on that tank. I love that bulb. I am considering puting it back on my DT.

Yeah I have had amazing growth with my Reeflux 12K 250W. And I love the color.
You know the best grower but to me is ugly as sin is the Usio 10K.
It puts to much yellow out for my liking.

The 10K XM is the same way. That's why it's only on for three hrs and while I am at work! I might bump it up to four hrs. Love the growth too much to not run it at all.

Prostrata
Characters: Colonies form corymbose or irregular cushions with thin elongate branches. Axial corallites are tubular in shape. Radial corallites are all the same size. They have prominent lower lips giving a scale-like appearance. Colour: Dull creamy-brown, pink or blue (which may photograph purple), usually with distinctively coloured radial corallite lips. Similar species: Acropora convexa, which has a more corymbose growth-form. See also A. millepora and A. pulchra, which have radial corallites of similar shape, but of mixed sizes. Habitat: Reef slopes and lagoons. Abundance: Uncommon.

Millepora (Ehrenberg)
Characters: Colonies are corymbose cushions, with short uniform branches. Axial corallites are distinctive; they are tubular in shape. Radial corallites are closely compacted and all the same size. They have prominent lower lips giving a scale-like appearance. Colour: Commonly green with orange tips, also a distinctive bright salmon pink, pale green or blue (which may photograph purple underwater). Similar species: Acropora convexa and A. prostrata. See also A. aspera, which has similar radial corallites but these are of two mixed sizes, and A. pulchra, which has smaller corallites of mixed sizes. Habitat: Shallow water, usually reef flats, but also lagoons and upper reef slopes. Abundance: Common.

If frags, they have to grow a while before you can tell them apart.

i believe you have a blue millie, i have both and the way i can tell the diff is the Prastrata is flat when the polyps are in, the millies have thick ridges that cover the polyps when the polyps are in

i bought my prastrata as a millie but after some research i discovered it was a prastrata..

Also you can also tell because prostrata's grow in an antle type pattern as opposed to the branchy millie style..

Oh and those are beautiful peaces by the way
