old aquaC vs new EV

I am looking to buy an older AquaC skimmer from a guy and I wanted to make sure that they worked as good as the new EV series. He says that it is 5 years old and should be comparable to the new EV 180 skimmer. He also says that the new model has an air inlet valve but his doesn't so you never have to tweek anything. He ran his on a 120g tank powered by a mag 12 and I'm looking to run it on a 150g.

Are the older models just as good as the new ones or should I look for an EV 180 model?

Being abvle to adjust the air is critical in me experience. If the air valve wasn't necessary I doubt AquaC would have added one to the newer models, you know? If it was me, I'd find one of the newer ones. I bought my EV-180 off Craig's List for a song.
