View Full Version : Do you clean your chaeto?

It seems like the chaeto in my refuge that is not being hit directly by a pump just sits at the top of the water column and collects detritus. Does anyone else have this problem? I typically shake it off when I trim the chaeto, but does anyone rinse it off with water from time to time?

I just give it a shake about once a week. Might explain why i'm seeing slow growth though...

I trim my chaeto rather shake loose the detritus.
Yes I shake mine out a couple times a month.

When I trim I just trim the parts that have build up and toss it.

I don't. I just trim and throw it back in. When I used to shake it over my sink. I seen pods fall out.

I guess that is my concern, like masonicman pointed out. Do I rinse and lose life, or shake it out in the tank muck up the water and then possibly have it settle back on the chaeto?
