i have just purchased a tank from a guy that has sump with filter pad, bioballs and live rock. HOw often should i clean my bioballs.

....I would take them out and replace it with some LR. In the long run it will be better for your tank.

I used to have Bio-balls in my sump and after about 3 months I decided to take them out and replace them with LR I saw just how filthy they can get.

there are also live rock under the bioballs. but i think i will take them out.

Its just the fact that the bio-balls tend to hold onto garbage that gets sucked down your overflows. Taking them out is just a better way of keeping a tank I think.

I'd just take out everything in that section and leave it empty. Any place that can trap detritus is likely to cause trouble.

thank you guys for your help. im gonna take out the bioballs. i havent had any problems with nitrates or anything i just wanted to be sure so that i could prevent any later. I also have another question: I have two 175w xm10000k metal halides on 175w aro ballasts and four 65w10000k coralife compacts. is this enough light for my 125g aquarium
