View Full Version : HELP Bubble Algea
I have a large amount of bubble algea on my sand and the back of the glass.
I have a protien skimmer cpr bac pack on a 46 BF with 20h sump this has been set up for about a year. What should I try first phos ban reactor or uv.
Im open for suggestions just did a half tank change 1 week ago.

When you say bubble algae, are you referring to the real bubble algae, or cyano-type algae that creates oxygen pockets within itself during the day? I've never seen a bubble algae outbreak so bad that it covers (or even attaches to) the glass.
I'd start with a phosphate remover, check the water change phosphate levels, and the nitrate levels as well. Phosphate in the tank will likely be zero because the algae is using it all up.
The bubbles don't really look like true bubble algea. They do look like air bubbles. The bubbles don't show up until after I turn the lights on. There is a green covering on my sand and back glass.
Good idea I will check the water change water for phosphates.
Thanks Mike. Do you think I should run a reactor or just a micron bag with media in it.

I run a reactor myself trying to figure out an algae problem, so I dare not be a hypocrite. :) The micron bag is passive filtration and no where near as good as active filtration from a reactor of some sort. I just got my bulk reef supply dual reactor Friday, and once I can get through exams (presuming I survive another round) I'll get it installed and put the phosban on one of the other tanks.
Thanks for your help Mike good luck with your exams.
