I have just put live rock and sand into my tank 4 days ago. Today I found a snail roaming about. Will it survive the cycle?

I had some hitch-hikers survive my cycle-but I never let my ammonia get over 1 via water changes.

That's why I advocate water changes during a cycle and not allowing ammonia to spike.

+2, but I've seen it claimed here on RC that a large cycle is beneficial to fully establish the necessary bacterial colonies. I don' t buy it... Live rock is that- some with all kinds of critters. No reason to subject the life to that kind of stress if a simple WC will keep the params survivable.

Thanks for the info!
I did see another post with a graph showing the fluctuations of all the nasties in the tank during cycling with and without water changes. I will be definitely be doing them.
