Well for all of those who remember, originally the tank was going to a 420 something gallon L shaped tank. This was the plan before we moved into the house and without furniture in the room seemed great. Fortunately we had a chance to spend a few months in the house before the tank and realized that the L would really take up to much room. So i knocked the L portion of the tank off and went with the following:
96"x30"x27"tall custom Sp Aquatics tank with external "Calfo" style overflow
60x20x20 custom SP Aquatics sump
Bubble King Supermarin 250
2-400watt Ice cap with 15k XM bulbs
2-250 watt ice cap with 15k XM bulbs
4-54watt T5 actinics
2- MP40 Vortechs with a 3rd to be added
Reeflo Snapper to be replaced with the Super Dart
Penductors on all returns
Currently 100mg ozone, but will come off once ZeoVit gets started

All of my old livestock thats been living in 2 100 gallon rubbermaid tubs for months and months
Pics are worth more than words so here it goes:

very nice so far, just one mistake. XM-15k's are some of the worst performing bulbs there are. you would have been better off using xm 20k's.

ive always really liked the color they gave off, and i have always seen good color growth out of my corals. Would a diff bulb do better, probably. Come bulb replacement time im going to the AI LED's just didnt want to swing them on start up

no not putting any of those bubble tips in, they are just what i pulled from the rock bins.

I do have a nice large neon green carpet sitting in a bowl in the sump waiting for it to attach to the rock so i can move it to the display

the far right corner will be one more island once i break another system down and move some of that rock over, but that will be it for rocks, i really like the island with swim betweens, fish seem to agree

Very very nice bchbum.

And FWIW I use and like the XM 15 ks too ... to each his own!

Wow, the teeth on the overflow make the tank look super long. Tank looks great.

Why not put the BRTA's in?

bchbum189
12/11/2008, 02:19 AM
because they run around like a bunch of little 5 year olds destroying or atleast annoying everything they touch along the way. Have this gorgeous superman that had a rbta wedged deep in a crack right beneath it so every day it would inflate and cover some of the superman inhibiting its growth for months, drove me nuts!

Yeah your aquascape is great.

I notice you are on a timber floor did you have to beef up the floor framing?

Hey what's in the far right chamber of the sump with the bucket?

that is my ghetto temporary bubble tip corral until i figure out what id like to do with them. All i do know is they are not going into the display ever again!

Tank is doing fantastic still, only problem ive run into so far is the pad fell off my magnavore little over a week ago and went way under back side of a rock i cant get behind. The velcro to attach a new pad also went behind the rock. So its been a week without cleaning the surface and its getting hard to see in..

gotcha, BTA jail :) As for the magnavore let me know if you'd like to borrow mine... I could swing by the shop and drop it off for a couple days.

Can you elaborate? I've been using them for 3 months now, and am curious what you mean by "worst performing". Effects on tank?

ill try and get back there for a pic, pretty cramped so you cant see much.

How it works, there is a long/shallow overflow box mounted externally to the tank. there is 3-1 1/2" drains and 2 of those have gate valves and are closed off just enough that a siphon is run. The 3rd drain is mounted in middle of tank and is higher up so if water level raises above that point then it drains any excess. I believe they called this the Herbie style of drains and is about the only purely silent way of draining water.

thanks for the compliments, yes i built it, but dont be fooled, its what i do for a living:D

everything is running nicely, still tweaking things here and there.

I did pick up a 300 gallon water tank that im going to use in the garage for pre mixed salt water. Its almost 7feet tall and i built it a 4foot tall stand so i can just gravity feed into the house on a crawl space.

Sorry for no pics, ill be sure to get some new ones of everything by weekend

time for updates,

finally added the 4-48" t5 460 nm actinics, moon lights still need to be added.
Inherited a missile..... it holds 300 gallons, im going to use it for pre mixed salt, put it on top of 4' stand in garage so i can gravity feed the house on crawl space. Oh and the thing itself is almost 7' tall haha
http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f77/bchbum189/300galwatertank.jpg

Here you can see the water purification, and the feed that goes into the house, going to plumb the holding tank into this line and valve it so i can close off DI unit and feed salt into house all in same line.

how do you know that thing is full ? and how do you get the salt into it ?

bchbum189
02/09/2009, 10:13 PM
it was originally used as a pressurized system and has a bolt on top hatch where i can add the salt, it also has a recirc pump and 2 500 watt heaters mounted inside.

I still need to peel away a strip of the outer foam so i can see through the translucent body for the water level.

little update:

Still going strong with vodka dosing, been few months since ive tested any traceable amounts of nitrate, need to try out someones low range phosphate as my normal kit hasnt shown any amounts of phosphate in long time.

Tank has no refugium, no carbon, no filter socks, no media of any kind and no ozone, and ive been able to stabilize my ORP at 420 to 440.

My ORP was 200-220 at the beginning of vodka dosing. I do not know if this is directly the reason for such high ORP, but im not doing anything else to get it that high, and without Ozone i didnt even think it possible.

SO since everything was going great i figured why not screw it all up, so i gave the tank a does of Zeo Spur2 which is supposed to lighten up any SPS and bring out the brighter colors. Dosed a hair under the recommended amount and next morning had nothing but pasty SPS..... DOoh!

ANyone ever seen a nice superman monti with red polyps and white base.... not as great looking as the purple base. I didnt loose anything but i certainly set it back a ways.

Are you using other Zeovit products? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Spur2 is a pretty touchy additive and is only recommended in well-established Zeo tanks. I'm sure the health of your corals will return, but you may want to bring up this issue on the Zeovit forum to see if there's anything else you should do.

havent been running the zeo system, just a few of the additives on top of vodka dosing. Been trying to create a nice little hybrid system of my own, and with great success until this mishap.

So far all of the corals are still surviving, and color slowly returning.

the anthias is Lyretail Anthias
