Question on Frags

I am new to fragging and was wondering why frags are generally kept on the egg crate, cant these be directly placed where these are supposed to go day 1 ? or to put in otherwords why is egg crate used for fragging ??

eggcrate makes a perfect spot to put frags while they heal on plugs. If you have a fresh cut frag and know where you want it, go ahead and glue away. you don't need the eggcrate...

and if you get frags from others you can put them there to get used to your lighting

Thnaks for your responses. For getting used to lighting, frags should be kept at the bottom of the tank ?? and then slowly raised to the position they have to go in, correct ??
