I got a small frag with about 15 to 20 heads on it...I have had it for about 10 days now.

I do not know much about zoa behavior...

Is it normal for my zoas to be open only with the lights on?

They never are all open at once...is that normal?

I have not seen anything messing with them, maybe a hermit bumps them at times.

Any suggestions on how to care for them would be appreciated.

I was thinking about cutting and gluing them to various rocks in the tank and spreading them out. Any thoughts?

What are they currently mounted to? A ceramic plug?

Question 1. Yes, they do close up after the light's go out, (most of the time, but not always).
Question 2. Yes, they will all open after they get used to the different lighting, and water perimeters. You've only had them for 10 days.

I would not cut them up just yet. Let them grow and spread on the rock there on now. I did the same thing with my Zoa. I just let it spread onto the rocks, after it had a good hold the rock I would just move the original peace of frag and let it spread onto a different rock. After only 2 years I have zoa everywhere. Take a look at my gallery.

do they all open, even if at different times? did you dip and/or inspect to make sure you didn't get any unwanted HH's?

If they're not all opening in a few days, I'd also inspect for pests. There are quite a few possibilities with the zoanthids, and they can cause that kind of reaction.

Clean the cyano off of them.
