i bought a niger trigger about 3 weeks ago and i never see him swimming. he lies in his cave all of the time except to get food. even then he doesnt eat alot. i have had a niger before and it was very active. i also had a blue throat which was very active. i have no fish more aggressive than him. he is also my largest fish. what gives?
Often triggers will be VERY shy upon first introduction. It's credible that you are still experiencing this. Can you list the other fish in the tank?

I would agree with cr. ive noticed the nigers in perticular are more shy than alot of the other triggers.

I think that is your only choice. Give him some more time, atleast he is eating. Keep an eye out for any disease though, nigers are pretty hardy fish.
