I have had a Red Line Cleaner Shrimp for about 2 weeks and the last 3 days it has been missing....
is this the normal thing? I have checked my sump and overflow. had a really good look through the rocks but no sign? i thought he would be easy to spot with his feelers hanging out of the rock work.

they do like to hide. Shrimp will also molt periodically and likely hide out more prior to and after while they feel vulnarable.

Pic is great. Was about to bust on you for taking the time at 2am to do that... but i guess you're a few hours ahead of my time zone.

Thanks, it is 6pm down here.
would they usually take 3 days?
also the last 2 days have had the lights off trying to help an algae outbreak. would this have anything to do with him hiding?

it just seems strange to me cause he is always so inquisitive and out and about.

nothing else in there except some LPS corals and a very small clam

i suspect hes shedding his skin, they do disappear for a day or 2 at times when this happens, i think its because his new skin needs to harden and until it is he doesnt feel safe and is hiding, if not then he might be dead, but hopefully hes shedding his skin

been 4 days and still no sign.
if he was to die do you think he would jam himself in some rockwork first? if he is dead thought i would have seen bits of him floating around by now

Hopefully it's just keeping a low profile, but have you checked the tank in the middle of the night? I've found they're mostly nocturnal.
