can do yes, avoid crushed coral, and most guys recommend a medium aragonite sand, i use the fine sugarsized, but aragonite is a good substrate, the crushed coral is a nitrate trap if its deep and when it ages, probably ok if very shallow but id recommend you avoid using it and use aragonite
Hey, welcome aboard Justin. What kind of substrate are you considering?

It can definitely be overwhelming, but if you take Michaels advice you will be good to go.

Agreed Crushed has to many places to hide crap
Finer sand allows for detris to collect on top for removal
But if you have a blue spot Jawfish then a few pieces of crushed are good for him to build with. Smaller pieces though.
And welcome to reef central mate

The size of the sand you use is the most important factor in selecting the sand you use.
