So, I added a BLue line Rabbit fish to the tank yesterday and everyone seemed to be getting along fine.
5 chromis
2 ocellaris clowns
Blue throat trigger.

When I woke up this morning I found the the Trigger on the floor. He must have jumped between 03:00am and 09:00am. I did notice that the rabbit fish never found a cave to hunker down in last night and was pacing the tank. Of all the fish, I never expected the Trigger to jump. ANy ideas?

Well that sucks. My guess would be the rabbit decided to sleep where the trigger wanted to sleep and they got into a fight. How big is your tank? How big is the rabbit and trigger?

Any fish can jump if they get spooked. I'll admit that the trigger is less likely, but it's not a terrible surprise. Sorry to hear.

Man that sucks. I think I would cry if my crosshatch trigger jumped.

My first sargassum trigger jumped into my overflow. I had sponges on top to block the light and I found him on them. Sad day. I used to pet him.

I had tried to be responsible and only have fish that "typically" don't jump. I get frustrated reading of aquarists that continually add fish that notoriously jump out of "rimless tanks," and then replace them continually. Nothing like nature turning me into a hypocrite.

I have kept quite a few triggers and they do jump. I don't think its that uncommon. If you go to the aggressive forum, there is a thread about a beautiful Clown Trigger jumping the other day. Luckily the guy was home to put it right back in the tank.

My niger trigger jumped not too long ago and I know someone elses Niger that jumped a month or so before mine. I have had a blue throat also jump, years ago though.

This is why I will never keep a topless tank ever again. I have lost to many fish from puffers to triggers to tangs jumping. And I think I have eventually lost mostly every wrasse I have ever owned to jumping.

I've spooked my lionfish while messing with my tank and had him jump a few times. Only once he actually jumped out and landed on the floor, the other times he just jumped in the air and landed back in the tank. Very scary to have a jumping poisonous fish.

Sorry for your loss.

You might want to use eggcrate so you don't inhibit gas exchange.

I had to give away my favorite blue throat trigger, when spooked he could jump a good 6 inches up and out of most tanks.

Well... Jumping height def. wasn't included in the description of the fish. :sad1:

Thanks for the input everyone.
