So im looking for a protein skimmer to sit in my sump. I have been surfing the web and forums looking for the best one for my 65 gallon tank with 30 gallon sump. I dont have more than a few hundred dollars to spend and I was wondering what skimmer would be best value.

Thanks

Your are going to start a flame war with budget skimmers.

I myself went with MSX. I didn't go wiht BM because it is 110V, and MSX being more reputable. Really the best you can do is research yourself because when getting advice you are going to get a heavily biased with what the have.

You also want to look at customer service because if anything goes wrong your don't want to wait 2-3 weeks for a part from Hong Kong.

It will help you I am sure. Well I am hoping it will give these skimmers a level playing ground. Under $300 the octo extreme/ MSX 200. Under $200 the vertex in 100. They will both out erform the bubble magnus and the asm.

I have the Octopus NW-150 and have only had it running for 2 days and even so, I have a half cup of gunk already. Just my .02. And yes, this is a highly biased topic so good luck.

You can pick up a good used Euro Reef for $150. Hard to beat that!
