There is a small 7.5 dkh bottle that comes along with the test kit.
How to use it? Thanks.

I think you mean the reference solution? It can be tested as you'd test aquarium water. The results should be around 7.5 dKH.

it's Garbage...the reference solution i tested was way off. Salifert product simply inferior to other kit available in the market.

I do not believe in reference solutions for hobby grade test kits. I haven't seen one that works yet.

That said, I still find Saliferts alkalinity kit quite acceptable for our purposes from my testing. :)

My preferred test kit, definitely.
They DO go bad over time, so watch your expiration date. After a bad experience with an expired kit, I'm ditching mine yearly in favor of new.

Yes, so use this to test instead of tank water, and your answer should be 7.5, correct?
My test kit is less than a year old, and the expired date is somewhat 2011. I just want to double check my tank reading, since the last 2 reading kind of went hi....

Salifert has a tendency to read a little high as it gets older from my testing.

But "reading high" I mean maybe 1 dkh.

I would just target the middle of the acceptable range and this will take into account any test noise you may get from contamination and such. :)

Most hobby grade alkalinity kits are accurate within 2 dkh either way.

Not a big deal IMO. :)

wow, did not know that. Mine reading is 12 right now, hopefully toward the south is better...

 Yes hopefully so but I would not sneeze at 12 dkh anyways.

You're welcome. :)
