Ok im a bit freaked out right now, My DT is only a 65g and I think its just to small for on of these great Nems. So Im passing this on.

A lfs A.HUT has 2 8-10" Mags in perfect shape both have tight mouths and are stuck on the glass looking great. One of em is the nicest mag ive ever seen in a store.

They have been in there a week already and still looking great. the price is just silly so If you want to get a healthy small Mag then heads up!

my 65 is to small right? ...sigh....

That's the prob with mags. They look great one second and terrible the next. Your 65 is on the small side for a mag.

TANK -NOT TOO SMALL...GET IT !!! BUT BE FOREWARNED...I HAVE LOST SO MANY "HEALTHY LOOKING" SPECIMENS ITS NOT FUNNY...IN FACT IN 20 + YEARS I WAS ONLY ABLE TO KEEP ONE SPECIMEN ALIVE LONG TERM...(5+) YEARS...
I used to live on Long Island also....
back in the late 70's I helped build a store called "pets plus" on sunrise hwy ,freeport...
but you are probably too young to remember that place...

I would say you are fine with a 65. I've had one for over 7 years and it's in a 50 gallon.

A healthy H. magnifica would get to about 18-24 inches in diameter. You can keep them from getting there by not feeding them too much. For long term, you should plan on an area of at least 18X18 inches.
More important is good quality water, high light, good circulation and temperature on the higher side than most people keep their reef. My anemone would not look good if the temperature get down to 80 degree. It will do much better at 83+.
I had them for a long time and that was my experience.

Thanks for the advice , im just not sure Im prepared for it.

ps. H-ottun-a Its more likely I dont remember it because I live at least an Hour east of it. Sad to say there isnt to much im to "young" to remember.

That's the first time I've heard someone say higher temp for a mag. I've always heard slightly cooler, like 78. That advice also came from the staff at Divers Den. I'm very interested to hear what other successful mag keeps think about this.

I keep my tanks around 80F in winter and 81-82F in summer.

Id say they are the best on the island, but there really isnt alot of competition.
