View Full Version : Here's one for old time sake - MY QUEEN TRIGGER

I no longer have this fish. I miss the heck out of her though. I sold her to an RC member about 9-10 months ago who had a 1000 gallon tank to house her in. This tank is a 150g to give you an idea of just how big she was. I never could get a good measurement but she was around 18 inches. I sold her because I did not have an option to upgrade and was afraid she was going to bust my tank. I now would like to find a small one to try in my aggressive 380g tank to see how it would do with tankmates. There is no way a tankmate could be kept with this fish. She was absolutely the meanest fish I have ever seen. I could not keep anything in the tank, not even rocks (she would throw them up against the glass). She chewed my skimmer up. Busted overflow box, chewed up powerheads. You name it. Oh and my hand never went in the water for fear I would lose finger(s). But I loved this fish more than any I have ever had. Here is a short video of her. Maybe the new owner will see this post and give an update on her. Last I heard from him she had killed all of the other tankmates that were already in the tank and was all alone in that big 1000g tank. Hope she's doing well. Here's to the queen....

One bad fish! I thought my passer angel was mean haha. I'd love to hear an update on her. Too bad about the other tankmates. To have only one fish in a 1000g tank, definitely shows this fish should be left in the ocean.

Long live the queen!

If anyone knows where I can find a 4-6" queen trig please let me know. If I can't find a queen I am thinking about a golden heart trigger on justrarefish.com

Um......WOW!

What did you feed her? shrimp, squid, stray kittens?

LOL, I would feed her frozen cubes, frozen seafood mix, whole pieces of shrimp. She would eat whatever hit the water.

Just took the plunge and bought a 9" Goldenheart from JRF.

I got a 4" goldheart from there a couple months ago, I hope yours comes in better shipping than mine did.

Mine was in 62 degree water and basically looked catatonic, I thought it was dead but it fluttered a fin a little bit when I put it into an acclimating bucket and I slowly nurtured it back to live.

Now it's an eating machine and it's definitely growing.

I'd love to see a picture of a 9" one :) hint hint

I just talked to the owner and it is shipping out today. It only has to ship about 6 hours driving distance. JRF is in Atlanta and I am in Kentucky. Yours would have traveled quite a bit farther if destination was Alaska per your sig. Hopefully he'll take extra measures with the bagging the big fish (with big teeth).

You can count on pics as long as he makes the trip.

Great, I'd really like to see pictures.

Mine is interesting because it gets real pale, more so than all my other triggers, then gets real dark. It changes "moods" a lot, neat to see.

Does yours hide alot recty? Hopefully this is an open swimmer. I also have a 7-8" clown trigger, a picasso and a niger.

Mine almost never hides. He goes poking around the rocks as much as any other trigger, but hiding he never does. At first he hung out in the rocks a little bit, but I mean like 2 days then he is now always out in the open.

My clown and my humu pace the glass from time to time, but my goldheart never does, which is nice. He doesnt ever look bored, he just moves around looking at the rocks.

I'm really interested to not only see pictures but also to hear how your aggression level is with the large goldheart. There are very few people who have large ones, so I havent been able to get much evidence of how their temperment gets as they get older.

I know, it's a gamble. The guy at JRF said he seemed pretty docile. Said he was in a tank with others right now and didn't bother them. I have a couple spare tanks just in case. Nice part is I am on vacation all next week so will get a lot of observation time. How about some pictures of yours Recty? I'm really anxious now. Can't wait to get this fish. I won't sleep at all tonight.

So your getting it tonight!? Thats awesome! Can't wait for pics! I think every trigger should be bagged carefully. I just bought a 3" niger who seemed aggressive in the LFS. As soon as he went into the double bag, he bit two holes into it. I had to put him in a 5g bucket for the ride home. Goodluck with your new GHT, can't wait to see it. It's time for an updated video too!

Good call even my little Sargassum bit through a couple of bags on the way from Los Angelos.

Well I'm at work so I cant snap any RIGHT NOW pictures, but I have some from the last week.

Here he is feeding off the nori I stuck in the cleaner magnet. He took the longest of all my triggers to eat from there, the clown and pinktail started immediately, but the humu and niger took a couple days, then the goldheart started almost a week later. Not that he NEEDS to feed off algae, I just figure it helps them get a more complete diet.

Here is one I snapped of him up close, trying to see the scale definition in his face.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i236/Recty/goldheart021.jpg

Here is another one I got of him late at night. This is actually his sleeping spot, he hangs off the rocks about 2 inches and just swims sideways there. It's pretty close to a Koralia 4 and the water kind of swirly and eddies there, I think he likes it for some reason.

All the rest of these are older shots from about 2 months ago.

Here he is trying to tell the puffer to find his own food...

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i236/Recty/goldheart012.jpg

This is what he looked like the first day I moved him from QT into DT... pretty dark and he hid in the rocks almost that entire day. The second day he was out more, and by the third day he was freely swimming around.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i236/Recty/goldheart004.jpg

I did have a little bit of a hard time getting him to eat in QT, btw. I dont know if you QT your fish or not but mine didnt do very well in there. I got him to eat a piece of scallop once, a piece of shrimp once, and finally I resorted to ghost shrimp, which he chased a little bit but not every well. I think he only ever ate one or two. After 2 weeks I went ahead and just put him into the display tank as he basically hadnt eaten for 2 weeks and he started eating just fine once in the display.

I lost a hawaiian pink wrasse just like yours in the first pic recty. This week actually, he was a jumper and didn't find him for a few days. He was dried up behind the tank. I put the tops back on my tank after he jumped. First fish I ever had that jumped. It and my saddle wrasse were best of friends. They played hide and seek all day. Kinda sad.

Fish won't be here till tomorrow DPS.

That is sweet news JMC! I have been looking at that 7-9" listing for quite a while and never jumped. Hope it is really 9" and has the top streamers.....and works well with the rest of your crew!

Thanks Dan. They've had it awhile. I was afraid that if I didn't get one of these I might not find them for awhile. The local place has gotten very small ones for $399. I got a much bigger one for less. I hope it arrives okay.

Mine had the top streamer at 4", although I'm a little afraid it got bitten off a couple weeks ago, heh :)

This guy that you sold this trigger to was actually over at my place this summer picking up a huge Black Trigger I gave him. He did mention having a huge Queen Trigger in a 1000g tank; he had told me that he went to Kentucky to pick it up, so this definately has to be the same trigger you're talking about. He told me that he was doing awesome:D .

That's really good to hear 1ucky! Wonder how the black trigger fared? The guy promised me he would send pictures after he got her in the new home but never did hear back from him.

He was going to put my trigger in a seperate tank being that he was blind:( ; he got stung by my fox face. He also promised to send me some pictures of your trigger as well but never did:mad: . He did show me a picture of it on his phone:D .

the Queen trigger is definitely a different fish, i have one here and it's about a 5-6 inch body and eats anything from shrimp to haddock fillets, i would sell to another fishkeeper with a fish only tank if they like i am in nova scotia so it'd have to be shipped
