Yes, I have used an M59 400 watt Advanced metal halide ballast. No complaints. It works well and is reliable.

i did a search and it seemed they weren't ment for a reef tank. i am sure i messed up the search or miss spelled it.

is it a pulse start. i was thinking about using radiums but they have to on a pulse start magnetic ballast

Advance brand (a division of Philips) ballasts are very common. They make many different types. Even aquarium lighting manufacturers use Advance brand ballasts.

You need a pulse start ballast to use the Radium lamp. The label should state the type: ANSI M59 is a standard magnetic ballast. ANSI M135/M155 is a Pulse Start ballast.

i wanted to make sue about the Radium bulb and now i know for sure i cant use it. mine is the m59
