Hi all,
My tank is quickly being overrun with mushrooms. I started with a couple a few years ago and we lost count at about 300. I have a 250 MH and (4) 65 VHO's. Will the mushrooms hurt or disrupt anything else in the tank such as zoo's, frogspawn, hammer and other LPS?
What is the best way to "thin" out the mushrooms?
Thanks
Jim

ive heard that if you take the shrooms and let them dry out your can eat them and get pretty high

Yeah don't do that. That's not only untrue, it will probably land you a visit to the hospital.
It can be rather difficult to quickly trim mushrooms once they hit plague proportions. I cut them along the base to remove the ones bothering sps or zoos. Kalkwasser paste does a decent job also.

How do i get my Shrooms to replicate like yours, are you dosing with anything? Keeping the Iodine up?

keep my low in tank under t5's don't feed anything all you need is good light and good skimmer to keep tank clean, i got blue shrooms spreading quick.

I really don't do anything except add water everyday. I have been really busy and has lost some intrest but at least I keep the water level up. The lights need to be replaced (which I have recently purchased) The RO filters should be replaced. I do drop in some Iodine occasionally. Everything is doing great even without my 100% attention. Maybe this weekend I'll do a water change and change the bulbs. (even though I say this to myself every week) :)

You can always find people who would be willing to trade for clean rocks... some people, mostly beginners as I'm just discovering myself, love mushrooms rocks.

You could always let someone local come up and do the work of trimming them for you. They get the frags and you get them out of your tank. Its a win/win situation.
P.S. Im kinda local :)

id just trade for bare live rock if it was me. this is the reason i took them all out of my tank. cant have that happening with SPS corals.
