Drill the hole in the center of the cap.

On my 2" dia. durso's, I drilled a 3/16" hole. No air line or valve on mine.

how do you adjust water intake then?

The hole in the cap is only to let air in, so that it doesn't act like a flushing toilet.

when i had mine, i drilled a 1/4" hole through the side of the cap and pipe....then i could turn the cap to adjust the size of the hole...

right now though i have an external setup and drilled a singe 1/8" hole right in the top of the elbow inside the tank...

With a single hole in the cap, you can't control the air intake unless you were to silicone a plastic valve in it.

I on the other hand drilled a slot in both the cap and the tube under the cap. Then I can adjust the air intake by turning the cap so it makes a small or large opening. I'll see if i have a pic.

I have never had to adjust the air flow. It is silent, untill it clogs up with salt creep and I just clean the hole out and it is fine.

if anyone has pictures that would help alot.

I have heard that you can drill a hole in the cap and silicone a valve in the top and use that to adjust air intake.

I have heard that you can drill a hole in the cap and silicone a valve in the top and use that to adjust air intake.

There are several ways to do it, that one being pretty popular.

Simple hole in the top of the cap in my 58g.

Slotted Durso (external) in my 40g breeder.
