Simple enough question, I have a Juvenille Emperor angel that is eating well and I was wondering if I could get a few flame angels to the tank. It's a 75G FOWLR tank w/ macro algae and the only other creature in there is a black spiny urchin and a serpent star. It's plumbed into my 240G reef w/ 300G sump.

Would they eat the same food?

Would they fight?

Is the tank too small? (It contains relatively little live rock, maybe 40-50 lbs)

Tried searching and could not sort through to specifically target this question.

I'd 3 FAs in a 75g with a juv Emp before and didn't have any problem (the juv Emp will eventully out grow the 75). The Emp is the boss and FAs will not go into the Emp's area. I would suggest more live rocks for the FAs to use as shelter and to graze on. The FAs will eat some frozen and pellets but they do graze on LRs all day long. Feed nori tied with rubberband on a piece of rock to supplement.

Sounds good. I would like to increase the 75G to a taller or wider tank in the future if space accomodates. I bet I'll be moving again in 5 years or less anyways and will either upgrade massively, or downgrade massively... depending on finances and ... kids =P

I currently feed one oyster per week, and a pinch of frozen food (blended up shrimp/salmon) daily. There is chaetomorpha in the 'refugium display' tank for him to graze on. The tank is supposed to be a low predation zone for copepods, but I don't think it'll stay that way w/ 3 flames and a emporeor will it?

I wouldn't sweat about the pod population...I used to think the FAs were eating pods all day but as someone else said they graze LRs for algae and not pods as it appeared. I have to agree otherwise there should be no pods left with my hungry bunch.

I keep 2 flames, 1 juvi emp and 1 adult emp. No issues.

In a fairly large tank one flame and one emporer would work....two flames may fight with each other. Lesley

Flames actually pair up sometimes pretty easily. A flame and emperor should be fine together.

How can you pair two flame angels up?

Its been done many of times over. I am looking to do it, but haven't found two flames yet! Usually you get a smaller and a larger flame and introduce them at the same time. There is a way to determine sex on a flame but I can't remember how. flameangel88 has 6 of them in his 180g. It can be done.

Now keeping an emperor in a 4ft tank long term can't be done, not good at all. I'd sell the emperor and get a couple of dwarf angels.

Thanks, I'll consider going for a dwarf angel instead. I was hoping a 75G tank for a emperor would be plenty of living space as he was by himself and there is a small amount of live rock as compared to most reef type setups. (and bioload is not an issue since I have a gigantic water volume).
