Hi all,

1.I purchased an ETSS Sump buddy 40 for my 72 Gal FOWLR. I was sold a rio 1100 Plus pump, In reading online I've seen that I might have too small of a pump to run this thing (they say anywhere from 650-900 GPH on their site).

2. Same skimmer, what Bio Ball arrangement are you all using ? from the bottom up I have : 2 small, 2big, 4small 2big. Any input on the best configuration ?

Thanks in advance guys.

Too many balls and to smal f a pump. You will need a pump around 700 gph is . A mag 7 is about perfect. run two to three small bioballs. the more balls you run the air it will draw. I played with mine for days when I got it. But your pump is way too small for it. I was sold a catalina 2200 rated at 800 gph for mine and it worked really well as well.

I figured the pump was too small ... more dis-information from my LFS I guess. Off I go to change it ... booooo

The LFS clearly sold you the wrong pump and I would insist on a full credit back towards the purchase of at least 700gph. pump.
I upgrade mine to Catalina 3000, but still not totally happy. There's alot of foam but not pulling much gunk out to the cup.

I certainly hope they'll give me a refund ... I started the break in process earlier today ... so the pump is wet :( but then again how was I to know it was the wrong one (till I found you guys that is) the manager (who sold it to me) is getting a phone call tomorrow morning.

I don't think it much matters what order the bio balls are inserted into the neck. They are there to help create bubbles as the water passes over them. Perhaps start with the smaller ones at the top.

ok thanks ... sounds like trial and error is in my future. The LFS realizes that they goofed and it's not gonna be a problem to get the proper pump
