Im sure this question has been asked 100 times but what is your alk reading? seems in my tank the higher the alk the better the growth?

I've been trying to keep mine at 10-11 DKH? seems when its lower the corals fade a bit?

what is your alk?

I keep mine at 8.5 to 9.5. I have good colors and growth. I try not to let it get any higher than than 9.5. You are probably ok at the 11.

I keep my alkalinity around 8 or 9. I dose carbon, and would see a decline in health with anything above 12. I've never notice any fading at 8-9 vs 10-12.

I try and keep mine around 8 - 9 dKH. NSW is around 7 and the conventional thinking is keeping it a point or two higher gives a little cushion.
It wasn't uncommon several years ago for SPSer's to keep dKH at 12 or even higher.

Mine's 7-8. Just seems easier to keep it lower. I think stability is the key. Pick a number and try to keep it there consistently.

I tried to keep my alk at 11 and had faster sps branching and growing.
I suddenly noticed tips with burnt tips so I dialed my Ca rx down. The colors of my sps have browned out a little bit with my lower alk at 8.5, but I think that is the result of sps being unhappy at high alk that caused this to begin with.

I too have noticed better health at 11-11.5 and things seem unhappy in the 10 range, i think its coral specific though. but does seem harder to keep it here at the moment. oh i use NSW and its always about 10.6-10.9

just what i have noticed in my short experience

It is all about stability and consistency.

At the high point of the day (AM before lights come on) mine is 7.25 and gets as low as 6.5 at times. Been this way for 2 years..... As a disclaimer, it is a ZEO tank, so, that has something to do with it.

i cant keep mine below 11.. some corals really seem to love it, my tubs bonsai has taken off-- where as my superman monti started to bleach and die (ACK.!) so i agree with the consistency And its fairly coral specific..

wired my superman monti grows very fast, be sure mnot to blast it with too much flow, i did this and it receded about 1/4 percent, as soon as i move the powerhead it recovered all tissue in a week.. at hight Alk

Mine is 12. I can't get it below 11. I quit trying because everything in my tank is taking off. I have several monti's including green and purple cap, rainbow and also sunset. All my sps and softies are doing fine. Like Saldarya said, "It is all about stability and consistency. "
Mine only fluctuates a point.
