Can I use black PVC on my plumbing or should I just paint the regular white PVC?
My concern is that my tank will be sideways to the door when entering the room and I'd like to hide the plumbing by painting it black to match the back of the tank and stand.
I would only paint what is visable from the side so I wouldn't paint what goes under the stand to the sump ect...

I think the black PVC is flexible so if you want rigid you'll have to paint it.

You can get black rigid PVC. Savko sells it. I used it on my 120 gallon because all the plumbing was visible, and I wanted it to look nice.
Here is the black PVC I used...

Note - all parts are not available in black...for those you will have to paint. Use Krylon Fusion for plastic...it works great!

Do I fix it all together and then paint or can I paint before I glue it all together? I'm assuming I would have to assemble it all first...

You can paint a piece at a time, that is what I did. Krylon Fusion for plastic.
+1 on Savko.

I use black PVC because it looks nice in my black stand. But not all fittings can be found in black. I use white fittings where necessary, but dark gray is also an option.
Word of warning when ordering from Savko. Shipping isn't so cheap and their order system is highly automated. Any attempt at human intervention to alter an order already placed will likely end in error. Be certain of your order before placing it. Sucks to spend more on shipping than the fitting when you realize you need one more.

Its only a couple hour drive to their facility for me plus its right next to a nice LFS so it may be worth the drive down there.
I think I need:
4x 3/4 90 elbow
1x 3/4 T
1x 3/4 45 elbow
1x 3/4 coupler
2x 3/4 threaded to slip connection
1x 1" T
1x 1" 45 elbow
1x 1" coupler
1x 1" valve
1x 1" threaded to slip connection
1x 1" End cap
6 feet of 3/4 (just to be safe)
4 feet of 1"
Their tubing comes in 5 foot increments and I would make all your 1x into 2x, especially that 45* elbow. Most of the fittings themselves are actually pretty cheap. Their "GF" (don't know what it stands for) ball-valves are especially nice, but the single or true unions on those valves are not the same size or thread as typical unions. I like the true-union valves for replacement and rotatable handle position, but otherwise, I prefer the typical unions for disassembly purposes. I actually placed a typical white union on the end of my 3/4" true-union GF ball-valve by accident during setup, but have found it to be of benefit. The typical unions are larger and easier to handle when taking things apart.

lowes and home depot sell a paint that looks like stone that looks extremely nice on PVC made by rustoleum its American Accents stone, no runs because it is textured stone finish also looks good on a back of a tank for those who paint the back, have to glue it all up or sanding to prime and glue is a problem 8 bucks a can but worth it. Liked it so much I made some out door PVC racks with it as well and it holds up to the elements
