I know this has come up before and searching through the threads I have seen some good options. Yet you can't find most of that stuff anymore, IE Southdown sand.
Is there somewhere I can find some sugar sized aragonite sand cheaper than in the LFS. I don't mind buying some from them but when you need 150-200 Lbs it gets expensive spending 26$+ for every 30lbs bag. I have checked the local stores and also Online. Am I missing something?

Your Home Depot may carry Southdown play sand. This is aragonite

No such luck in Nebraska. I've tried and and even called other stores in other cities. Nobody is carrying it.

Southdown and Old Castle are pretty much just visions of Christmas past anymore. At one time it was fairly easy to find but not now. Your best bet would be to see if anyone local or in your local reef club may have some for sale, otherwise a buck a pound from the LFS or white play sand that is silica based <-- not a bad option at around 7 10 dolars ber 50lb bag.

I have seen the white silicia playsand around. Looks pretty but I have read all sorts of bad stuff about using it.

Well, it has been a while since I set up my DSB. Things change.
Anything with silica will breed diatoms. Not suitable for the aquarium

Been looking at that. They seem to have the best rates for shipping.

I use crushed marble play sand. It runs about 10 cents per pound if you can find it locally.
