A pod pile is a small collection of rock carefully stacked together so that fish can't get in between them.

how tall do you make them?
how wide?
I have rocks in various location that no fish can get to, is it good enough?

Depends, I made mine with a leftover strawberry container. I put a bunch of rocks into it and flipped it over so the rocks would not roll away, or be hit away by my cleanup crew.

All the rubble pile does is serve as a refugium - a refuge for pods to take shelter from predators (and breed). If you already have a fuge I dont see why you would want to add a pile to your DT. The chaeto, LR, and sand in the fuge will do much better than a pile in the DT with predators lurking. Kind of an alternate IMO.

I'm not sure how easy for pods going from the fuge to the DT. That's why I want to add a pod pile and hope it's going to help feeding a pair of Mandarins.
I'm thinking about using some proxy to put a few rubbles together... it may form a interesting aquascape too.

get a strawberry container or 2 or maybe a bit of plastic netting. use the netting to close in the basket w/ some zipties after filling it w/ live rock. If you make one for the DT and one for the fuge you can rotate them and it helps get fuge pods into the DT.

The refugium is the best place to allow pods to multiply in safety. Your fuge should drain back to the sump right where the main pump suction is located so they can get a free ride back to the DT.
