i just bought a frag online the other day and its not getting here till next week due to weather. in the mean time, i just wanna get aome general info about it.

What is the growth rate of this guy?

can it be kept near any other corals?

if it can, what corals can it be kept near it?

where should i place it in my tank? High? Low? ect.
i have 2 175 watt MH in a 96 gallon reef.

thanks,
Andrew

growth rate is fast, can be kept near other sps corals but not touching... it can release harmful slime when disturbed... so close, but not too close. medium to high is fine. HTH!

Try live aquaria, they have good info on coral.

should i first try to start the frag off in low light or just put himm right where i want it, right away? (which would be considered high light)

Looks like you've got MH's, so yes, I'd start it low and raise it slowly over a few week's time. Slimers, IME, take on different
growth patterns depending on flow. Mine's in an area surrounded by alot of indirect flow and it's growing in a clumped pattern. The tank it came out of had more consistent wave like flow and it took on a long streched out branching growth pattern. In both tanks it was kept low, grew fast, and has nice bright brilliant green coloration. They're very hardy, so once you get it used to your light, I'd say you'll be able to grow it pretty much anywhere.

here's the tank it came from (can't believe I still have this photo)

Here's mine lower Right hand corner

Oh and FWIW I mounted my frag sideways. Just layed it on the rock. That way it grew out from both ends and sprouted from the middle. That may also have contributed to the growth pattern.

even though my lights are not the strongest, you still think i should start it off low?
