I have another sand question. I found a new LFS and was looking for sand. All they had was reef grade aragonite. I have about 40lbs of Oolite in already and was looking for another 120lbs. They told me they don't carry that because water won't sift through and I would have a nitrate and ammonia build up among other problems.

I have never heard of that. I like the oolite because it looks better but don't want to crash everything just because of looks. Plus he said my tank won't clear once I get fish in it because they will be stirring it up.

Is all that true?

In general, fine sand is best if you plan on a DSB. Oolitic is very fine but is not needed for a good DSB (Gets them mad in Oolitic, Indiana where the sand gets it's name). As long as the sand is fine it should work out. If visual appearance is the concern, then try finding some on-line.
