Is Brine frozen shrimp cubes a bad food source?
If so what is a good food source for clowns.

It's not necessarily a bad good source, it just doesn't offer much nutritional value. Mysis shrimp, on the other hand, is a great substitute.

My clowns love pellets too, its good to vary their diet.

I like to mix it up and feed variety. I use brine occasionally but more mysis, blood worms, daphnia or chopped seafood from the grocery store. I only rarely use formula 1 flake. I think that variety is important.

If you want to use brine shrimp it helps if you soak it in Selcon or Zoe. These are basically enriching solutions to make it more nutritional

I use the spirulina enriched brine, then soak it with some pellets in Zoe for added nutritional value. I'm also a big fan of the blended seafoods, make my own mix a few times a year.

The most important factor in a fish's diet is protein. I make sure that their staple dry food - pellets, spirulina flake - is high in crude protein, and I supplement with mysis, bloodworms, and cyclops for variety. My clown and azure damsel gobble pellets and that alone meets all nutritional needs. My bangaii cardinal is much more finicky and will only eat frozen food.

When using brine shrimp it is important that they be well fed with planktonic food before they are frozen. Something like Shmax uses is good.
