I was just looking at my clam's mantle and noticed it looked a bit 'tattered'? what could this be? is it bad? its a 2.5-3" crocea, just intro'd it yesterday and its foot has already started to attach.

help? I can get pictures if needed.

the clam has been in my tank less then 24hrs, so I dont think its something I have, but in the tank are
1 LMB
1 lamarcks angel
5-10 blue leg hermits
10-12 astrea snails
2 serpent stars
various corals

pics of the clam (not the best, but these were the clearest I could get

in the one below the 'tattered' edge is on the right, middle

it could be your angel nipping at it. they are known to nip at clams. its a 50/50 shot with them

lamarcks in the genus genicanthus, which are about as close to reef safe as you can get.

I'm 100% sure that no fish are nipping at it, and about 95% sure that no inverts are bothering it.

since it is new (had it about 2 days), should I be worrying? it is still opened up, still responsive to light changes (if a shadow moves over it, it closes) and starting to attach already. so, since it is showing all signs of being healthy, should I really be worrying?

i wouldnt. just keep an eye on it to make sure the mantle doesnt get any worse.
