Hi Guys,
Can you please recommend numbers for a CUC for a 16 Gallon tank. My tank is still cycling at the minute - a few more weeks to go so I am not looking to get them all right now but would like to be prepared.
How long should I wait before adding the CUC (on average!!).

Took mine a little over a month to cycle fully. I have a 10 gallon, so add 50%:
2 Nassarius snails, 2 Cerith snails, 5 Astreae snails and 3 hermit crabs (2 scarlet, 1 blue legged). I wouldn't recommend more than 3 crabs even in your tank.
If I add more Nassarius, they just die off (I believe because there's not enough food). The hermits have never touched my snails (1 year old tank), but I give them lots of shells to play with.

Hi FBNitro,
Thanks for the answer - and refering to my other post about the QT - do you also put Nori sheets in your DT for the crabs or do they have enough to pick at on the LR?

In my DT they have plenty, the comment was just a suggestion for the QT.

Oh, one more question (I have thousands in my head...) what is the difference between the red legged and blue legged hermits???

Just different species. The Red ones you want are Scarlet hermit crabs, they have Yellow Eye Stalks (I don't have a photo to show you and my tank is in a bad state right now due to some algae creating spores :( ). The Blue ones are call Tri-Colour or Blue Legged hermit crabs.
The Blue legged ones (the right ones) should look like this:
<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/RDMcI5zYr_oVwSS92X_SVA?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_xTfh8qF56zY/R-8HaHAnr2I/AAAAAAAAAGg/Fn3rgRJRgUY/s288/DSC02446.JPG" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/FBNitro/ReefTank?feat=embedwebsite">Reef Tank</a></td></tr></table>
Notice the red and black bands. The ones you don't want are just blue and black on the legs. They get huge.
