View Full Version : does anyone know how these skimmers work?

these are skimmers built on to the back of this tank and im not sure how they work if any one knows it would help a lot!. the only way that ill use these skimmers is if i can make it an in wall otherwise ill drill and by pass the built in sump and put a sump underneath. thanks for any help!!!

They look like they would use a airstone and a air pump, but it is hard to tell for sure.

u might be right with that airstone idea i dont know much about airstones but it looks like those tubes could have had airstones on the bottom.

yeah, looks like for airstone. get a couple limewood ones and maybe a super luft pump and fire it up :)

I'd still fit a sump underneath...

psam if i did a fowlr tank do u think id need an underneath sump then?

techniclly you dont need a sump period, its just always a good idea. I have seen many sumpless reefs, they just tend too have alot more stuff hanging on every inch of the back rim :) Some don't even run skimmers and do water changes often to keep nutrients at bay. That being said i will always run a skimmer on all my tanks
