Hi all,
I'm planning on upgrading from a 55gal (fish and hardy invert) tank to a 180 gal. I had the 55gal about 10 years ago and with this size tank I did a 20% by volume water change once a month, does this still hold for the 180 gal? Can anyone suggest the optimum water change volume and change interval? Again I plan on a fish and hardy invert tanl with 3" aragonite (medium 1-2mm) sand and live rock.
Thanks a lot

i used to do a 10-15% every 2 weeks CDS, but find a 10% weekly is best, i used to do 10% weekly when the reef was first set up and changed the schedule, im back to where i started and i find its better for me

+1. I do 10% weekly as well with good results.

Thanks again guys. Excellent link WaterKeeper, I just printed the whole thing out! Leave it to a chemist to use all those plots!
Thanks again

25% once a month works for some, +1 on 10% weekly as most favorable. I do more on the order of 25% a week but I'm the nervous type. You can experiment a little and see what works for your individual application as everyone is a little different.

i agree. every tank is different. Mine seems to do better with weekly changes. while i have seen beautiful tanks that only get 20-25% a month. My levels seem to stay more stable when i do my weekly water changes.

They like that scholarly look in in RK. My columns are a major disappointment for the editors I'm sure. :sad2:
