I have an empty tall 20 gallon tank that I'm thinking about turning into a sump for my 5 month old 75 gallon SW tank. I was thinking I could fit more into it if I got a long 20 gallon.
Any ideas?? Please help

IMO, you will regret a "tall" tank for a sump, if it is under your stand. Makes it more difficult to reach IN the stand, OVER the top of the sump, and DOWN to the bottom. This is even more of a problem if you have a tall skimmer in there too. I would recommend going with the 20 long, or even bigger if it will fit.

yea agree. I avoid tall tanks for sumps. You are better off using a 20 long

I have a separate sump and refugium. The fuge is a 10 gallon that is gravity fed into my 20 gallonish sump. Works for me.

I have the same set up as SaltyDr because I couldn't fit one long tank under the stand through the front doors. If you are putting it under an existing tank and there is a centre divider you may need to do the same.
It's really frustrating when you buy a tank (which I did) and get it home and it does not fit (which it didn't). :)
Zestay,
I ended up taking apart an existing tank, having the glass cut down by a local glazier and reassembling it. Worked great. My semi-custom sump.

return pump. heaters. all the live rock rubble you can find. a spot with a deep sand bed. an area that may be used as a hospital tank. also an area where you throw your pests. ( large grabs and mantis shrimps )
you can combine many of these things too.
like make a fuge with a DSB, macro algae and a place for injured fish to recover all in one area.
