i need fish that will have to earn their keep to be in my tank
i need ones that look good but also serve a purpose
so far:
1 6 line wrasse to get worms (plus they look cool)
1 orange spot goby or sleeper goby or diamond goby (sifters)
2 ocellaris clowns just for looks
i was gonna get a flame angel, but im gonna have a reef so i'll pass
what about clown gobies? i heard they nip at corals
i was thinkin of a longfin bannerfish, they work in a reef? zoo's, zenia, favia, mushrooms
also, all the fish at my lfs are small, can i get more than one since their tiny? cuz it'll be needles in a haystack in the 55

I can't really recommend any species off the top of my head for your setup at the moment, but I will say although the fish at your local store may be small, that does not mean you can put more in, unless you plan on upgrading to a larger system.
Unlike freshwater fish that stunt (which is very bad for their health), saltwater won't stunt, instead they will just die. They may be small at the moment, but you need to consider the adult size of the fish.
As for the Longfin Bannerfish, as far as I can remeber they can get up to 10" or around there. A normal 55 gallon is 12" wide. I myself would recommend NOT getting one, but i'm not an expert, so I would wait and see some other opinions on that.

Flame angels are known for being "reef saft with caution" or some other semi warning. But for what it is worth, I've never had any eat coral, nor do I know anyone who has (not to say it never happens).

I agree about the angel. It's a 50 50 chance.
I wouldn't get anymore gobies, as they are aggressive towards their own species unless they are a mated pair.
I have a goby and clowns in my reef also. I also have a Royal Gramma and a pair of Pajama Cardinals. I'm not sure if they'd be safe with your wrasse, but you may want to look into them.

I was told that the longfin bannerfish gets too big for my 90g (susceptible to mhlle) so its probably not a good idea to put one in a 55g. As for a suggestion: Orchid Dottyback (looks good and is peaceful)

I would just start going to online sites like liveaquaria or bluezooaquatics, start getting some idea of what you think you'd like, and do the research on them on your own. It's better than to have some random fish spoon fed to you. When you have a few picked out, maybe post them here so others can chime in.
I'm not trying to be harsh, but in this hobby you really have to read and research a ton before you make purchases.

..good information about fish? or aquariums in general?
A good beginners book is "The conscientious marine aquarist" by Bob Fenner. He is the creator of the website www.wetwebmedia.com.
