That is a very nice fish. How aggressive are the blueline's?

barbianj
12/31/2008, 08:58 PM
I believe they are very aggressive. My son had a very small baby blueline before the Queen trigger. It died from what looked like an injury or infection. Here is a picture of it. You can see the inflamation starting in its cheek. Beautiful fish.

I'm pretty sure that is a baby blue spot trigger, not a blue line, but I could be wrong.

danorth
12/31/2008, 09:36 PM
Sorry Recty, but it is a blue line, and a super tiny one at that. They are aggressive, but not all are killers in the sub 10" size. I have one about 5" now, maybe a touch shy, but maybe not, either way it sure doesn't have as vivid of colors as the one from LA.

Weird, I've seen pictures of what were labeled baby blue spots and they look exactly like that.

Shows what I know, I dont claim to be a trigger expert yet ;)

That's a gorgeous blueline, and a nice size too.

What's the largest one any of y'all have seen in person?

I'll have it Tuesday! Hopefully this one is shipped better than the goldenheart was. First time I've ever ordered from LA. It will be shipped MUCH better than that. You aren't only ordering from LA, you've ordered off Diver's Den, they are pretty much the top of the line. I've ordered from 5 different major online places so far and Diver's Den at least 5 or 6 times, they have never disappointed and always ship as good or better than the competition.

My expensive fish I've ordered off Diver's Den, the golden puffer, an achilles tang, the sohal tang, the niger trigger, they've all been packaged great. My Niger trigger was 8" long when I got him, 10-11" if you count the tail streamers. He was in a huge box, with like 12 bags around him. The first couple had leaked from him biting but the water had no where to go but into more bags, so he arrived in great shape.

I think you'll be impressed. I really hope he gets along with your current crew, I've never owned a blue line but I hear they are somewhere in temperament between clown triggers and queens.

hmmm i would rank reef hotspot and phishy business packing on par with diver's den, phishy busines was in fact better, serdar is top notch as they come and his fish are quarantined and guaranteed healthy just like diver's den. max at reef hot spot is not far behind, can't go wrong with those three.

have not tried marine depot live yet.

What is the typical blueline attitude like? I found a really nice one at a local shop & he's cheap..... for a 5 in healthy blueline he's $60!!

Thus I have been debating... it's just I will only have a 220g for a few months.... not sure how he would do in that tank with my 10+ in hawian trigger who is a complete whimp.

Are the blueline's really mean??

Recty, they have a medium one listed here at LA http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?c=720&pCatId=235 I saw it already :) I went and looked around there again 2 nights ago.

Blue lines vary a lot in color it seems, some are more yellow, some are more blue... I'd really like to see the fish I was getting before purchasing and the regular Live Aquaria you just cant do that with.

Bali is the place to go to get bluelines! I want one so bad but I had my emperor angel kill a 4 inch one once so I'm guessing it is a bad idea to try another. One will die.

here is the one there today. So cool!

Recty

$160.

There was a really nice looking Bariene tang too, and it was gone within a couple minutes... I was thinking of ordering both, heh.

danorth
01/02/2009, 07:30 PM
I am always looking to do that....just have to find the right one....at the right price. I can't just do $150+s/h without some pre-approval with my wife. Especially since I am in the process of refinancing the house and needing to come up with $30K for loss of home value and fees. I will just have to deal with the one I've got for now. So I will have to wait for JMC to dazzle us with that new one. Just like with that clown trig with the funny pattern, can't own them all!

I'm surprised the one I bought stayed on there as long as it did, ~24 hours or so. I was a couple hours away from home on New Years Day and tried to call LA to order it but they were closed. It bugged the heck out of me to hurry and get home to order it, lol.

Good god, so far this fish appears to be meaner than crap!! I added to the tank after an hour and half acclimation and it did not hide at all. It went straight after my clown trigger believe it or not. I'm going to have to watch it really close.

Oh, beautiful fish, though.

JMC, you know what, I hope it tames out. Stuff it with some food and see if that mellows it out.....otherwise you'll have to ship it to me.

Recty
01/06/2009, 06:40 PM
Hmmmm, how is it in size compared to your clown?

jmccown
01/06/2009, 08:50 PM
My clown trig is about 7". It gave the initial chase to the CT and a little chase to my picasso of 3" because the picasso was following the blueline's butt too closely, it turned and started after the picasso but he was asking for that one.

Still watching him to see if he gets out of line.

Yes he looks just like the pic. His blues haven't come in quite as vivid yet, but he's only been out of the bag a few hours. I'm sure he'll look awesome within a day or two.

I promise pics tonight when I get home from work. Yesterday was too hectic. Aside from getting the new fish I am trying to do a bathroom remodel as well. Had to get the fish acclimated and in the tank and then go to Lowes to pick up some supplies, etc.

It's spelled "Soap Opera" by the way, lol.

I got a cool new video camera for Christmas but haven't figured out how to format the videos so that photobucket will accept it. Some strange file formate I've never heard of.

Stay tuned....

jmccown
01/07/2009, 04:50 PM
Sure don't. Quit believing in quarantine a long time ago. I have my own theory about it and have yet to lose a fish from not quarantining them. It all comes down to getting healthy fish.

Always love it when a fish eats well right off the bat :) Pretty cool, hopefully he stays peaceful in your tank.

danorth

Keep it eatting pellets if possible.....that would be the best I would think. That will bring out the colors for sure and keep it fat/healthy. Glad you got it!!!

01/07/2009, 08:01 PM

Looks like he has a good set of teeth. Are those markings under his eyes ribbed or textured?

The chromis are 4-4.5". They lay eggs all the time but never any hatchlings. The undulated is maybe 3".

Well this sucks. They had a 2nd blueline come up on Diver's Den and I ordered it. The day it was supposed to ship they actually sent me an email saying it shipped but called at the end of the day saying shipping was delayed because the fish wasnt ready.

They just called me today and said the fish perished, so it looks like I wont be having a rival to your's, jmccown.

It might actually be a good thing, I think I've gotten as many triggers into this tank as is healthy, although it sure is tempting to squeeze in one more.

Nice fish jmc! Be sure to keep an update on her!

recty, yeah, its a sign saying dont get the trigger, get an angel!!!!

Recty
01/08/2009, 10:33 PM
Well I know I'm getting an angel already, that's kind of why I'm not too sad about the trigger... an angel or two is what I want to add. Another trigger would be sweet but I think 6 triggers and 2 angels, plus a puffer and wrasse would push me over the edge. 5 triggers is probably my limit.

Unless of course they call me back saying they have another sweet blue line in :)

Yeah, I have a hard time believing it too, danorth, but I dont know why they would lie about it.

danorth
01/08/2009, 10:54 PM
I'm good at making things from nothing......so here is what I think:

You got into something that should have been closed (the for sale link)

They sold it to you thinking it was legit

They started thinking....uh oh....call and make up something to buy us some time and sort it out.

Yep, someone did infact buy it first, so tell him it died...that way you can't be upset and blame them or their computers on the mistake.

A stretch? Maybe, but being a school teacher I'm always leary of stories/excuses.

What angel? I didn't hear about any angel?

Recty
01/08/2009, 10:59 PM

I've never ordered online before. Do fish from liveaquaria come in decent condition, or is it better to just pick one up at your LFS? I guess my question is does the fish get "damaged" in transit when you buy online?

I also have another question, I never adjust the PH when acclimating new fish when I buy from my LFS since they keep the PH approximately the same as my tank (I have 8.4 and they have 8.2). Do those of you who buy online adjust the PH (of your QT or other tank where the fish is being introduced) when acclimating?

jmccown
01/11/2009, 01:44 PM
I think I've become partial to LA online since this purchase. This fish is extremely healthy. It ate first day. Plus you get a guarantee, something you rarely ever get from a LFS.
