I'm posting for a friend of mine who has a stock 24 gallon nano cube. His tank os overrun with GHA and I am at loss as to how it can be fixed. So far he has cut the light cycle down, been manually removing as much as possible and cut out all feeding. He has been doing this for a month and still it seems like it is not slowing down at all. The parameters are perfect which is puzzling. Ammonia, nitrite and nitrate are all at 0.
He bought a phosphate test kit and that reads 0 as well. I am puzzled at why it is growing so robustly. I am guessing the phosphates and such are bound up in the GHA??
Water changes are 20% weekly and RO water is used for top off as well as the water changes. He even tested the RO and that checks out fine. He runs carbon and I have read some brands of carbon will leach phosphates into the tank water, is this true??
Livestock consists of the regular nano stuff like mushrooms, frogspawn polyps. There are 3 fish, 6 hermits and 5 snails-not sure of the species.
The lights are about 6 months old so I don't think it is a specttrum shift problem.
If anyone has any suggestions it would be appreciated.
I suggested more CUC, what do you think??
If is funny as my 12 g nano has worse water parameters and no GHA except on the hydor flow nozzle.
