I think my 250w phoenix might be just a little to blue for my liking. Can anyone recommend a 250w DE that is just a little more white than the phoenix? Thanks.

ps. I have dual actinic PCs to supplement.

what , if any, change should I see after the phoenix is fully burned in?

A phoenix with actinic supplementation would look hideous. They are best standalone with no actinic.

Try a reeflux 12k DE, how old is your phoenix, they get whiter with age...

WHAT?
I run 14k Phoenix bulbs with Blue+ actinic and still don't think it's all that blue IMO.

It depends highly on your ballast. Phoenix bulbs have their best color when using a magnetic HQI (M80) ballast. Electronic ballasts tend to burn the bulbs on the bluer side. But to say they look "hideous" with actinic supplementation is pretty extreme, borderline crazy talk.

Here is my tank, Phoenix with actinics:

I run two 250w phoenox bulbs over my tank.. and i feel that they are too white. I am planning on adding two actinic VHO bulbs to blue it up a bit..

I am running the phoenix on an icecap electronic. Its only a few days old, so i will give it some time to burn in a little.

Giesemann megachrome coral 14k, white with a hint of blue, perfect with actinics and the HIGHEST PAR in it's class, plus good longivity. They might be more expensive but you get what you pay for, better performance.

Same here. My phoenix bulbs are on icecap ballasts. like i said earlier.. im gonna go with VHO actinic supplementation.. or maybe switch to 20k bulbs.

Is the Ushio 20000k like the XM 20000k?

With 260W of actinic + 300w of Phoenix on my tank, = one ugly overpowering blue tank. Was NOT a fan of the color at all & I do not like natural colors *LOL*

Also every tank I have owned with phoenix bulbs, has looked a little more blue than that without actinic!

No, much nicer, ushio 20k looks like a white bulb with VHO actinics it's very nice and spectrally very complete, it grows SPS better than bulbs with 2x the par because of it's spectral qualities.

Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but IIRC Phoenix has a blue peak >450nm. Actinic is more violet at 430nm or so, so they shouldn't really have that much of an additive effect.

FWIW I recently tried XM 10K and XM 15K on my tank (250W DE on Icecaps). The 15 K didn't look much different than phoenix, except for being more dim. The 10K was nice, but a little green for my taste.

Does anyone have pictures of their tank with the Giesemann Bulbs? I am thinking of switching to them?

Here's a current pic. 250W Gmann Coral 14.5K w/M80 ballast on top. 150W Phoenix (Current USA Sunpod) ove rthe frags area below. When I had 250W Phoenix on the display with M80 HQI, it was a tad whiter compared to the 150W, but not much.
