Can someone point me to resources on Porcupine Puffers. I have searched here and found some info, but not a lot on behavior. My new puffer (in my tank two weeks now) sometimes swims around with his tail curved to one side, it reminds me of a scolded dog. Also he touches everything with his "chin" like Robert from Everybody Loves Raymond. Strange but great fish.

The curled tail is natural, I don't think it feels sad or scolded tho.
They are nocturnal and you will see him lay on the sand all day and come out at night so do not worry when you see him on the sand. They can be either really docile or really aggressive, but may try to eat anything that can fit in its mouth. They need a variety of food to keep it nourished properly. A diet of only krill will eventually kill him. They will also beg for food all the time so don't give in just because you feel bad for him. They don't really ever feel full so it is easy to overfeed these guys. While they are little, feeding him once a day is sufficient and when they are bigger you can feed him 4-5 times a week.
You can find a lot more information on wetwebmedia.com. That is probably the best resource available.

Thank you for the info. So far he is really docile, had my Clarkii steal a piece of food right out of his mouth, and didn't even give chase.

Give your porc time, when he gets comfortable he will put an end to that behavior and Clarki if it steels his food again.

curled tail = stress, is anyone picking on him? does he have a place to hide? eating well?

mine is all over the tank, eats like a pig, never has a curled tail - example of normal porc behavior

I haven't seen anyone picking on him, he's seems to be shy around everyone, doesn't bother anyone. His tail isn't curled all the time, he also does it when no other fish are around him. He swims at the top of the tank during the day, hangs out in the corners, seems happy. I have been feeding him frozen krill (thawed), and he eats out of my hand fine. I was cleaning my K4 the other day with a small white bottle brush and he was trying to eat that as well. Thanks for the websites everybody.

Thanks for the links - Great reading and info. I just set up a tank for my son with a small porc puffer. Great fish!

I tried a porc in my main display tank a while back, but I have a stingray and the puffer bit her tail a couple times so I have to return the puffer. Maybe I should have tried a dogface instead.....
