so i have issues!! LOL...not a surprise....here is my question....I bought bulk calcium from bulk reef supply...it is calcium chloride anhydrous pellets. Sooooo....when I want to make recipe number 1, do I use the full amount of calcium or the 20% less amount? and when I go to calculate the amount needed to dose based on this sites calculator...

http://home.comcast.net/~jdieck1/chemcalc.html

which additive do I use...randy's number 1, or anhydrous CaCI2? My calcium usually drops far lower than my alk...that one is easy...baked baking soda...recipe to the letter. and that is the one that I does...it is the calcium part that has me banging my head against the tank!!!

Hope to hear from you soon and have a fabulous new year.

Kat

i got that...I guess the real issue is the dosing with the baked baking soda...something just isn't in balance...

Use the 20% less amount

The calcium chloride anhydrous in the calculator is to be used when using the pellets and measured as solid before dissolving it in water.
Because you will be using the calcium part solution of Randy's recipe 1 that is what you need to use in the calculator.

My calcium usually drops far lower than my alk...that one is easy...baked baking soda...recipe to the letter. and that is the one that I does...it is the calcium part that has me banging my head against the tank!!!
It is OK to use more of the calcium part than the alkalinity part.
If you find that this is happening consistently, then you can make the calcium part of the recipe a bit more concentrated.

Hope to hear from you soon and have a fabulous new year.

Happy New Year to you too

oh okay...with the baking soda...you have to dose SUPER SLOW and in a HIGH FLOW AREA. What I do, is point the return heads upward and dose into those in the display tank.

good luck
