anyone have any info on them...a friend gave me one i have in my QT and just wanted to know if they are reef safe and any specail care required

I wouldn't consider them reef safe. they'll eat anything and everything they can lay their mini claws on. snails, hermits, feather dusters, etc, can all be munched.

are they all the same in that aspect or do some differ from others...the guy i got this one from has had it in his reef for 2 years and he said he has never had a single problem with it and the only reason he is getting rid of it is b/c he has to move for his job and dosnt think it will make the 2000 mile trip...

It's really a generalization, but on the same token there's no way of telling that the lobster will remain "behaving" once it enters your tank.

i personally think it would have survived the trip just fine if bagged properly, kept at the right temp, and exchange air in the bag a few times along the way....i moved my entire system 600 miles this way, and it was not a 600 straight through drive, the system wasnt back up and running for about 2 days and i did not lose a thing

funnily enough they are not very clever.
feed them every day or so with prawns or a cube of fish and the wont even be bothered by catching live food...... starve them and there goes your 20 dollar clownfish. bad-a-bing.
