Hey people, I want to increase my flow in my 14G biocube . I already have a aquaclear 302 in addition to the stock pump that came with the unit.
Basically I want to replace the stock powerhead in the back compartment with something more powerful!

What have you used?

I am looking for something that will fit well and not raise the heat too much during the summer months.

what type of corals are you keeping? if it's only softies/lps then perhaps a koralia 1 or nano. i've had really good luck with these pumps. they're reliable, quiet and low power consumption.

I Have open brain ,candycanes , bubble and a large pagoda cup besides softies.
I know the koralias are good ,but I need something to replace the stock pump in the back chamber.
Thanks

cant help too much, but one my BC29 i use a hydor powerhead, the nano one.

It is great, and doesnt create an overpowering flow.

Yankees2519, I was thinking of that . Have you tried that?

I was even thinking of the maxijet 1200, but I would probably have to scrape my fish off the front of the glass. LOL

Maxi 900 is the perfect replacement as the 1200 creates to much heat.

Thanks casino, Is that what you have in yours? Is the extra flow noticable?

i actually installed a 1200 a little while ago in my 14g biocube. I understand the heat issue but i happened to have the 1200 and its winter and my house is about 58*, figured it wouldnt matter. Plus my LFS will trade me a 900 when i want to swap it. i had to widen the gap from the 1st to 2nd chamber a little because it wasnt allowing enough flow. So far so good- my 1200 happens to be extremely noisy though. I still recommend the 900. Good luck

What is the flow rate of the stock pump compared to the 900?

I went with a 900 as a replacement for the stock pump... it's almost silent and doesn't produce a noticeable raise in temperature compared to the stock one (at least for me).

How about a Tunze 6025 nano. They work great for smaller aquariums.

sorry misread your post. fwiw, i'm using the mj900 in my AP12 - very nice output and power consumption.

As a Stock return pump in the Oceanic BioCube...Here is the GPH RATE With the stock pump

BioCube 8.........106 GPH
BioCube14........137 GPH
BioCube29........243 GPH

I have upgraded my BioCube 14 to the ( 29 gal ) pump of 243 gph.......it is much better

Maxijet 900 is 230gph. The 1200 is 295gph.

I couldnt say. I never even fired the stock poump up. I just did what everyone was doing over at nano reefs. They were all swapping the pumps so I had one and I installed it. I then tried the 1200 but I noticed the temps were up by a few degrees. Thought it wouldnt be so much fun during the warm weather so I went back to the 900.

I have a minijet 606 and find it provides perfect flow through the back chambers. If you want more flow just put a tunze or koralia in the display. IMO not worth it to spend money on a mj, I personally don't see it benefitial.
