This is the first acan I have bought and it has always been very light/faded in color compared to all of the acans I have seen. Is this just normal coloring and a lower "grade" acan or is there something I can do to improve its colors. It is on the sand bed under 4 39W T5 bulbs (2 AquaBlue Special/2 BluePlus). I don't spot feed but do see that some food is caught by the acan when feeding the fish and I add cyclopeeze maybe once a week.

Thanks
Shawn

If it is a lower grade acan, then no, the colors are pretty much are what they are. However, give it time, and feed it regularly with some PE mysis (1-2x/week) and it may just color up and suprise you

I have an acan I took a gamble with about 6 months ago. Nothing to write home about, just a $20 piece off Ebay. Let me tell you, it is now one of my favorites, and I have quite a few Aussies. So, you never know what you may be buying. As stated, feed it and give it TLC.

do you think moving it to a shaded area would improve it? Like I said, it is on the sandbed but still completely exposed

Agreed. Your best bet is to spot feed :)

I wouldnt completely shade it, but sometimes they like indirect lighting.
