I'm currently programming my AC3 Pro and am having fun automating my large setup. I have a question about the max controlled devices. I see the specs state that its 40 for the AC3 Pro.

What exactly does this mean? 40 Switched outlets? If I install a breakout box do the "i" inputs count as a controlled device? How about moonlights?

This might sound like a silly question but I have 32 sockets worth of Hdc4's and dc8's currently used up. I could trim it to 28-30 but it would be a total pain. If the breakout boxes digital inputs count as controlled devices I could be in trouble.

I'm going to install 4 floats in different places for topoffs (2 quarantine tanks), and a double in my sump. I'm planning on using the breakout box to do this. The floats don't have to be powered do they? I assume since its "digital" the breakout box is supplying the power and all the floats do is open or close the connection?

Thanks much!

40 represents the number of timers you can have configured and while this may represent the number of controlled devices it also includes any dummy timers you might add.

Switch statements generally don't cound against the 40 unless you are like me and create a dummy timer so you can see the status of the switch on the status screen.

Ok that makes sense. Too bad the Pro doesn't have an upper limit of say 64 or something. Where did the 40 come from? It's not a power of two.. doesn't make much sense. Anyways I'm going to be pushing up against the 40... never thought that was going to be a problem :(
