Does anyone know why the outlet of an Iwaki pump is tilted. Can I unscrew the volute and rotate it so the outlet is perpendicular to the ground.

Yes, you sure can. It is always a good idea to put some White Teflon Lubricant on the threads, or something simular if you don't that.

Anyone know the answer to the first part of my question.

I don't think you can. The have 6 screws and are setup so the outlet can be horizontal, so you can not adjust it to be perfectly vertical.

But look at the screws that hold the pump head together, and see what angles it can be adjusted to.

You can rotate the wet part of the Iwaki and make it perpendicular to the base. If yours is tilted, I assume you got it second hand as they are shipped perpendicular to the base as you want. I have used Iwaki pumps about 20 years and that is the way all of mine were shipped. I have three, (2) MD-55-RLT one running my Aerofoamer and one as my return pump. I also have a MD-100-RLT that has never been used and it is perpendicular to the base just how it was shipped. To satisfy yourself, unscrew the screws and rotate it the wet end. That was easy!

Thanks for your info. My Iwaki is brand new. I will unscrew the volute and rotate to see if I can get the output perpendicular to the base.
