We have a 120 reef tank with over 100 lbs of LR and lots of caves. I currently have a yellow and lavander tang in there and have come across an opportunity to get a beautiful purple. I am considering putting them together but do not want to take a chance of losing them. The yellow has been in there for a little over a month, lavander about 2-3 weeks. The yellow and lavander get along great. The yellow definitely displayed when I put the lavander in, but they are great buddies now.

Thoughts?

In at least a 6' tank with a lot of rock, you have a better than 0% chance. If the yellow has been in there for a while and is bigger, it may not work. My yellow tagged up 2 PBT, and a Naso to death.

Thoughts? To continue with the sentiment above, no, this would likely end in disaster.

All fish are individuals, but you have to remember a 120gal tank is still pretty small when talking about tangs, and you already have two in there.

I do think you have made an excellent choice of tangs so far. Lavenders and yellows are great tangs, and of different genera. I just would never add a third, especially with rockwork taking up so much space.

It is a 4' x 2' deep. So you think one will have to win out?

The wife is attempting to catch the yellow as we speak. She has always (as have I) wanted a purple, and for $60 from an someone we know, it is hard to pass up. The purple is around 5".

I can understand that. This is the route I'd go as well, take the yellow out and add the purple. Best of luck! :D
