Hey there,

Has anyone had any experience with ETSS Sump Buddy 40 skimmer?
http://www.superskimmer.com/SumpBuddy40.htm

I'm looking for something that has a relatively small footprint (has to fit in a Megaflow Sump Model 3) and is $225 or below and this kind of jumped out at me.

Anyone run one or seen one run and can offer any advice on it?
Anyone recommend a different/better skimmer that is $225 or below and has a relatively small footprint?

Thanks a bunch!

Yeap I owned one and did a review. Pretty good skimmer. Should help by reading this link to a review I did on 15 skimmers.

Nice, Thanks!

I'll start reading it right now.
Do you recommend that skimmer or another option for $225 or less (or will I find out your recommendations by reading the post hehe)?

Anyone else out there that can chime in on this too?

Thanks again!

it is a well built skimmer, it does a great job. If you have a small footprint and have a larger system I might go with it. LEt me know what size your system is.

I am running it currently, I will link to a video of it running that will show you how compact it is. I have it running in a 10 gal sump, that sliding gate valve they do on this one seems to work pretty good.

It will make some foam, Mojo I went with the 3 mini balls and it is running very nicely, definitely drawing more air.

Hey Rick,

Thanks for the post and the video!
Do you think the Sump Buddy 40 is enough skimmer for a 92 Gallon tank w/Megaflow Model 3 Sump?

Mojo, I sent you a PM about my system. Thanks!

Got me on that one, I know that they have a SB 60 model, I am running the SB40 on a lightly stocked and fed 37gal and it is pulling stuff out. It is probably overkill in my system, but I like watching the bubbles. LOL

What is the measurement of the compartment that you plan on housing the skimmer in? AE tech's website says it can handle up to a 180 using a mag 9, and up to a 120 using a mag 7. Even going by the half the manufacturers rating theory you would still be good.

im using the sump buddy 40 on a 150 with a 9.5 mad pump. Im filling the small waste container they sell about every 2 weeks. Im thinking about removing a bio ball to up my air bubble production. I have a custom sump and tank..I needed something with the small footprint, and this is just that. If your going to have a high fish load...go with the 60.

I think the 40 with 2 or 3 small bio balls will do you just fine.

Thanks everyone for their help/opinions!

I just got my 92 corner with sump tonight and am currently setting it up. I think I'm going to have it pretty well stocked up in the future, so I am thinking of the Sump Buddy 60 or Vertex IN-180.

Just have to do a bit more research and then make a choice.

Thanks again!

Definitely 2 different approaches to skimming, I was trying to decide between the SB40 and the IN-100. I already had the mag 7 pump and got a good online auction deal on the SB40 ($100) so that made my decision.

I also have an older square box reef devil with a gate valve that I was playing with at the time and I just like the amount of water these guys move. I had a little Super Skimmer 65 that did ok, light bioload 2 fish at the time on a 37gal + 10 gal sump. so when I got that royal gamma, I had to up the skimmer. LOL

Good luck with the search, I can honestly say the SB40 has been very easy to set up and now I just watch it bubble.
