A CAMPAIGN to rename fish as "sea kittens" in order to improve their image has been ridiculed by the Federal Opposition.

Outspoken animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is using the "sea kitten" name as part of its push to restrict fishing.

"When your name can also be used as a verb that means driving a hook through your head, it's time for a serious image makeover."

:eek2: Nice Sea Kitten Tank...

Hmmm, calling them sea kittens might give chinese buffets more of a reason to serve them ;-)

No offense to any asian people out there, it's simply a joke (I hate how I have to cover my @$$ all the time with the way people are these days)

I hope some of those who made up this crap do so. I saw this story earlier, pretty ridiculous.

Time magazine has a regular item, called 10 questions, that they run weekly, in which they ask someone 10 questions that have been sent in by readers. They profiled the president of PETA one week. She said that people do not really understand the organization; that many of the things that they do are meant to be silly. That they aren't always serious about the methods, but the underlying message (I guess in this case, that fish are animals, too, just like our {in the West} beloved pet cats and dogs) is the real thing. And that message can sometimes sink in while people ridicule them. Just reporting what the interview said.
