Been a while since I posted anything.My original post started as the 120 gallon wedge.Just for a little background... I moved my 55g (that was set up for 2 years) and transfered everything to the new tank. It's actually a 135g.Now for the question..... I am seeing a little cyno(please see the pics) sorry my camera is old. This was setup on Dec 20th+/-. Tested last night.
Cal. =420
KH= 10
Sal. 1.026
Temp.=78.6
Mag=1320
Po4=0
Am=0
Nitrate and nitrite=0
Should I start dosing vodka???? Buy a Denitrator??? Or cool my jets. Just don't want this to get out of control. Thanks,Dave.

kinda hard to tell from your pictures, but if it's cyano, it's pretty typical in new aquariums.. I would just wait it out a bit

"Should I start dosing vodka???? Buy a Denitrator???"

Well Cyano is actually a bacteria, not algae, so dosing vodka could make it worse not better...
Cyano also can fix N2, so a denitrator doesn't seem like the best approach IMO. I would start by running GFO, or increasing the amount of GFO you are running if already doing so.

Sorry, should have said running carbon and phosban. Also Oracha 250 skimmer. If other info is needed just let me know. Thanks, Dave

Hopefully these turn out a little better. I though it was cyno?? is this red slime algae??? Thanks, Dave.

If your nitrates and phosphate are truly 0,then running a denitrator or gfo would not have any effect,since all they do is remove NO3 and PO4 respectively.

Increasing gas exchange with improved flow particularly at the surface along with manual removal and occassionaly puffing off the rock and sustrate to prevent detritus accumulation may hellp.

If your ph is low you may have excess CO2,either from a claium reactor , poor gas exchange or high house CO2. In lthis case limewater dosing and /or getting outside air to the tank may help.

I've had that before, and added a little water flow with a powerhead and it helped. Also if you use a turkeybaster to try suck some of off and then discard it outside of your tank.

Thanks for the replies. Good things to consider, I have plenty of flow, 2-6055 w/auqa surf. I almost thought I had too much. Never thought of the co2. PH is pretty constant 8-8.4+/- .Maybe I will try to manually remove and wait it out. I really don't want to start Vodka dosing until I know it is absolutely necessary,just don't know when that is. I have been reading about it and trying to learn. Any other suggestions would be great. Everybody here on this site has been great. Thanks, Dave

Your ph does not indicate a CO2 problem. GFO may be of some help if phosphate is driving it.

Dumb question, what is the difference between GFO and phosban?? Would I have to add another reactor??

Phosban is a form of gfo. (granular ferric oxide) I must've missed the fact that you are using it.
